Lionel Messi, capitán de la Selección de Argentina,  fue reconocido este lunes como el mejor deportista 2022 y recibió el Premio Laureus; mientras, la atleta jamaiquina, campeona olímpica y mundial de velocidad, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, recibió el máximo galardón en la rama femenil durante la gala celebrada en París.

Messi también recibió el premio en nombre de La Albiceleste, que fue nombrada Equipo Mundial del Año, tras su triunfo en el Mundial Qatar 2022.

El delantero argentino del Paris Saint-Germain, de 35 años, ya había ganado el premio una vez, compartiéndolo con el piloto británico de Fórmula Uno, Lewis Hamilton, en 2020.

Los candidatos a los Premios Laureus del Deporte Mundial son seleccionados por los medios de comunicación mundiales, mientras que los ganadores son determinados por los 71 miembros de la Academia Laureus del Deporte Mundial. Los premios se conceden anualmente desde su creación en 2000.
